Why Homeowners Take on Whole Home Remodels

The same frustrations — solved.

Most whole-home remodels begin because of a handful of homeowner frustrations. Here are the two we hear most often, and how we solve each one.

Problem

The Home Has Never Felt Like Yours.

You bought the house, but the choices inside it were made by someone else. The kitchen is from one decade, the bathrooms from another, and the finishes look like a patchwork of every owner who came before you.

You may have lived in the home for years and slowly updated one room at a time. Or maybe you just moved in, and the previous owner’s taste is on every wall. Either way, the home does not feel like yours yet, and renovating one room at a time only makes the rest of it look more dated by comparison.

Our Approach

A Unified Design That Makes Every Room Feel Like Part of the Same Home.

We approach a whole-home remodel the same way we approach a single room: with a plan that ties everything together before construction begins. That means kitchen and bathroom designs that share a design language, flooring that flows across the same level, staircase upgrades that anchor the whole home, and consistent paint, trim, and doors throughout.

The finished home doesn’t feel like a series of small renovations stitched together. It feels like a home designed at one moment in time, tailored to how you live in it now.

Problem

The Layout Worked for Someone Else's Family.

The walls are in the wrong places. The kitchen is closed off from where everyone congregates. There is no real space for a home office, a gym, or a quiet room to retreat to. The home’s footprint is fine, but the layout was designed for a household that doesn’t match yours, and rearranging furniture hasn’t helped.

Our Approach

A Floor Plan Reworked Around the Way Your Family Lives.

We rework the layout so the home actually fits your household. That can mean opening walls between the kitchen and the gathering space, restructuring rooms to create a dedicated office or gym, optimizing space you stopped using, or designing dedicated lounges and primary suites that feel separate from the everyday flow of the home.

We work the design out fully in 3D renderings before construction begins, so you can see how the new layout will function before we touch a single wall.

Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel | Mantua, NJ

A kitchen and bathroom remodel for a family that wanted both spaces brought up to the same standard. While not a full whole-home project, it shows the design coordination, finish consistency, and structural problem-solving we bring to multi-room work — including opening the kitchen layout by removing a structural column.

Why Lifestyle Design + Remodel

Four reasons homeowners choose us.

Lifestyle Design + Remodel was built around the parts of remodeling that other contractors get wrong. Here is what we do differently.

01

A Team That Stays With You

From design through construction and final walkthrough, you work with a dedicated team that knows your project inside and out. We are here for more than the construction phase, we aim to build lasting relationships with homeowners who trust us with their homes again and again.

02

A Design Phase That Removes Uncertainty

Most remodels go over budget because too many decisions are made after the work begins. Our project development phase locks in the layout, materials, and pricing before a single wall comes down. You get a fixed-price agreement, 3D renderings of your finished space, and a client portal where you can track every decision, document, and update from start to finish.

03

Honest Guidance, Not a Sales Pitch

We guide our clients with full transparency. We simplify the decisions in front of you, set realistic expectations, and never push upgrades you do not need. The goal is to help you make good calls about your home, not to talk you into a bigger project.

04

A Build You Can Live Through

Construction does not have to take over your life. Our team shows up in marked vehicles and company apparel, cleans up at the end of every day, and uses zip-wall systems to keep dust contained. Project managers carry no more than three or four jobs at a time, so your remodel gets the attention it deserves.

"Ryan, Tyler and the Apex crew remodeled our Primary Bathroom in August 2024. Ryan was very knowledgeable in his recommendations and detail oriented. The crew was on time and very clean. Their work exceeded our expectations. We were so pleased that we booked Apex at that time to remodel our second full bathroom in February 2025. They just completed the bathroom and once again did an incredible job. One important factor is they kept to their timeline and Ryan oversaw all aspects of the remodel. We will without a doubt be recommending Apex to all our friends and family."

We're absolutely thrilled with our new Master Bathroom. Ryan & Taylor listened to our needs and wants for this remodel. We were able to start with a blank slate and with their guidance we were able to have everything we wanted and needed. Working with Apex Home Innovations they were able to help us stay within our budget and get everything we wished for. In addition, every single person that entered our house from Project Manager and Team, Dry Waller, Tiler, Electrician, Counter Top Installer, Plumber, Painter and Glass Doors Installer, all were very courteous, respectful and trustworthy. There was never a down day and the project progressed smoothly, on time and on budget! We highly recommend Ryan & Taylor so much so that we are now having another bathroom remodel as well as our laundry room.

We couldn’t be happier with the work Apex did to finish our basement! From start to finish, the experience was top-notch. They completely transformed the space into something our whole family enjoys every day. They built a stunning full bar, a sleek half bath, and an incredible kid’s playroom—complete with a secret room that our children are obsessed with! It’s like their own little hideaway, and they can’t get enough of it. Our guests are always blown away when they come over. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and thoughtful design choices really shine through in every part of the basement. It feels like an extension of our home—not just an afterthought space. What really sets Apex apart is their hands-on approach. The owners were personally involved and on-site every day, making sure everything went smoothly and according to plan. That level of care and dedication is rare, and it gave us so much confidence in the process. Every single contractor they brought in was professional, talented, and clearly took pride in their work. You could tell they all shared the same high standards. We’ve already recommended Apex to friends and family, and we’ll keep doing so. If you’re thinking about finishing your basement, do yourself a favor and call Apex. They’ll bring your vision to life and then some. We’re beyond impressed and incredibly grateful!

Your Questions, Answered

Common Whole Home Remodeling Questions.

Most of our clients ask some version of these. If yours isn’t here, give us a call — we’re happy to talk before you’re ready.

How long does a whole home remodel take?

Most of our whole-home projects take between 8 and 16 weeks, depending on the scope of the work. A foundational one-level remodel typically lands in the eight to twelve week range. An elevated multi-level remodel takes ten to twelve weeks. A premier whole-home remodel with structural changes takes 12 to 16 weeks. We confirm your finalized start and completion dates during the project development phase, before construction begins.

For most whole-home remodels, yes. The scope of work involved typically makes it impractical to live in the home during construction. We will discuss the timeline, scope, and whether any rooms can be staged separately to allow partial occupancy during specific phases of the build. These decisions are settled during the project development phase, so you know exactly what to expect before construction begins.

Taylor and Ryan lead the layout and design work directly, the same way they do for any single-room project. For material selection, we work with the designers at our preferred vendors who help you choose finishes, cabinetry, tile, lighting, and plumbing fixtures across every room in the project. You receive 3D renderings of every finished space before construction begins, so you can see how the rooms will work together before any work moves forward.

The point of our project development phase is to settle every decision before construction starts, which is especially important on whole-home projects where one decision affects multiple rooms. Change orders are rare on our projects. If something does come up during the build, we walk you through the options, the cost, and the schedule impact in writing before any work moves forward.

For projects that involve load-bearing walls, footprint expansions, or other structural changes, we bring in a structural engineer or architect during the design phase. This is built into the project timeline and the fixed-price build agreement, so there are no surprise costs once construction begins.

Yes. We file for all permits during the production phase, before materials arrive on site. Whole-home projects typically require multiple permits for electrical, plumbing, structural, and mechanical work, all of which we manage and coordinate so you do not have to.

Every whole-home project includes a two-year warranty on our installations, plus the manufacturer’s warranties on the products and materials we use.
