The Story

A Baby on the Way and a Need for More Space.

With a new baby on the way, Rob and Melanie loved their Audubon home but had run out of room to grow into it. They came to us with a clear ask: turn the unused attic into a true primary suite, so the nursery could move into their old bedroom, and they could have a floor of their own.

“Apex Home Innovations (now Lifestyle Design + Remodel) recently completed an attic renovation for my family and we could not be more pleased with the results. Working with Ryan and Taylor was a dream. They truly care about quality, functionality, and meeting the needs and desires of their clients.

Ryan was incredibly accountable and understanding with requests. The people they work with, tile, plumbers, etc., are all wonderful. They will be our forever choice for contractors.”

Design

Designing Up Instead of Out.

Instead of putting the family through an addition, we looked up. We worked through preliminary layouts together, finalized material selections, and walked the space with our trade partners to pressure-test the plan. Then we delivered 3D renderings so Rob and Melanie could see the suite before construction began.

the details

The Details That Made This Suite Special.

Modern bathroom with a freestanding tub, glass shower, wood vanity, and window overlooking trees

A Curbless Wet Room With Tub and Shower

The curbless layout pairs the soaking tub and shower into one open, spa-feeling room where the morning routine finally feels like a moment to themselves.

Modern bathroom with a wooden vanity, double window, two sconces, tiled floor, and snake plant

Warm Wood Vanity With Quartz Top

A single-sink vanity with reeded fronts, brass hardware, and an open lower shelf for everyday baskets.

Attic bedroom with window seat, white built-in storage, plaid pillows, and sconces

A Built-In Window Seat Under the Gable

A cozy reading nook under the gable windows with cushioned seating and storage below.

Modern bathroom with freestanding tub, glass shower, wood vanity, and patterned floor tiles

A Geometric Mosaic Floor

A patterned marble mosaic that runs continuously from the bathroom floor into the shower, reinforcing the curbless feel.

More Project Features.

Functional storage and closet space

Built-in cabinetry tucked into the eaves so nothing has to live in the room it does not belong in.

Frameless shower glass

A clean glass enclosure that keeps the curbless room feeling open from end to end.

Brass and chrome lighting mix

Layered sconces and recessed lighting that flatter the sloped ceilings.

Soft, light carpet in the bedroom

A quiet, comfortable surface that takes the edge off the stairs at the end of the day.

Spray-in insulation wrapping the roofline

Spray foam through the rafters seals the suite against the seasons, so the room above the house never feels like one.

Mini-split system tuned to the top floor

A dedicated mini-split keeps the new suite comfortable year-round without leaning on the rest of the home’s HVAC.

The Result

A Whole New Floor for a Growing Family.

The attic that nobody used became the floor everybody fights over. Rob and Melanie gave their newborn a nursery, added a real bed and bath to the home’s value, and finally have a private retreat tucked above the rest of the house, exactly the kind of space a growing family deserves.
